Our History

Paul Young Funeral Director Ltd has been a family owned company of funeral directors based within Askern area of Doncaster for over three generations.

In the early 1900’s, Jack Young was baptised in the village of Askern, Doncaster. One day he made the long journey to set up business as a carpenter in Leeds. Coming from a Doncaster village, an early 19th century West Yorkshire must have seemed a vast place to set up a business.

A Family Service You Can Trust.

While setting up the business in Leeds, Tom (Jack) Young, owned various horses and carts to carry the coffins to and from the funeral service. Paul Young’s first job at that point was to follow behind with a bucket and spade, but since then Paul has progressed into owning his side of the business and growing his Grandfather’s legacy.

Permanent Memorials

The small village of Askern lies approximately 7 miles north of Doncaster and sits almost on the border between Pontefract and Doncaster Town Centre. Askern was firmly placed on the map in the Victorian era and was famed for the healing properties of its spring water which forms the lake that we see today. However, there are other fine reasons to live and work in Askern, such as loving and caring community.

Other smaller villages and hamlets that surround Askern show a warm feeling of rustic and rural life. Campsall, Norton, Sutton, Owston, Burghwallis, and Fenwick, gave the tourists and visitors a good idea of what the town was like before the spa.
