Bordering the Woodlands area of Doncaster, Carcroft is a rural village and civil parish in South Yorkshire, England. Carcroft is roughly six miles north-west to Doncaster Town Centre, a packed market town filled with the top-leading Highstreet shops. At the time of the 2011 Census the village fell within the ward of Adwick.
Although a small village, Carcroft is known for having the original DFS furniture store, which began as a Northern Upholstery outlet, and is also known for supporting local shops and businesses, such as Paul Young Funeral Director.
History of Carcroft
Carcroft was a mining town, but a small portion of the village has been redeveloped on the land that had been occupied originally by the Bullcroft Colliery, which operated from 1912 to 1970. There were talks about reopening the coaling industry, however, as of yet no moves into restring mining in the area have been made.
The St Michael & All the Angels Church, and the Catholic St George & the English Martyrs are the two churches located in the village.
